Help us create calm for young people with fragile hearts

For young people with severe learning difficulties, hospital appointments can be overwhelming. Bright lights, unfamiliar machines and multiple staff can quickly trigger fear and agitation.

More than 25,000 young people across our region are living with congenital heart disease. Thanks to advances in medicine, most now grow into adulthood — but their condition requires lifelong monitoring, including regular heart scans and rhythm checks.

When anxiety rises during these tests, movement and an increased heart rate can affect the accuracy of scans, sometimes meaning tests must be repeated — adding further stress for patients and their families.

Which is why we want to purchase a Sensory Voyager system for our Adult Congenital Heart Service.

This innovative portable system uses immersive projected imagery, gentle sound and adaptable lighting to soften the clinical environment. By reducing sensory overload and distress, it will help more young people complete their scans calmly and successfully the first time.

Your support could help young people with learning difficulties who need regular heart scans feel calmer and more secure during these vital tests, helping clinicians monitor their hearts safely and accurately throughout their lives. If you would like to get involved just click this link Donate
